Drawing for immersion

Drawing for Immersion integrates three primary themes: the embodiment of place through a material-driven drawing practice, the creation of large-scale and physically-interactive drawing encounters, and the facilitation of collaborative drawing events. This is work currently in process, an emerging drawing ethic guided by a sense of place, body, earth and time.

I use natural materials responsibly gathered in situ, hand-processed into drawing pigments and combined with graphite, charcoal, ink, wax, and watercolor, working on surfaces that can be manipulated into three-dimensional structures of varying scale. These modular drawings will be installed in spatial layers to create a labyrinthine environment that encourages close looking, physical interaction and engagement with material, mark and space.

The concept of immersion speaks to being surrounded, absorbed, or otherwise encompassed by both material and idea.
